6 Tips to Help Your Dog Survive a Fire

Dog Fire Survive Tips

Pets, especially dogs and cats commonly take on the starring role of smoke alarm and there many stories of how a cautionary bark protected a family or a whole apartment building full of people. To get rid of this, I’ve put some precautionary measures here!

1.       Install smoke detectors and test them at least once a month, and replace batteries every year.

2.       Paint kennel surfaces with two coats of fire-retardant liquid paint.

3.       Pet proof your home, observing for all areas where dogs might out of the blue start fires.

4.       Have a pet-evacuation kit outside the home, if you don’t have one, consider buying it today.

5.       Replace frayed, cracked, or broken electrical cords.

The countdown to Halloween has begun and with just days away, you simply can't forget about dressing up your pets! If you are still not ready, don’t fret! Here, I’ve listed out three DIY Halloween costumes for pets without splurging a fortune. It will take up less than five dollars for you to get this costume for your pet. The costume ideas include:

·         Teddy bear

·         Lion

·         Shark

Now let us have a look at the supplies you should have to make them.

All you need is an old teddy bear, scissors and glue.  However, make sure that the teddy is of the same height as your pet. Start of by cutting the back of the bear and pull out the contents and stuffing’s that’s inside leaving the arms part. Cut hole in the bottom-most of the feet and take away the face. Glue the arm together, such that no stuffing falls out.

To make a lion attire, you will need a Velcro and strips of brown felt. Just twist the felt around the Velcro and secure with glue. It will act as a collar- the Velcro.

Cut out two matching shark paddles from gray foam and stick them together. For goldfish, cut out from yellow foam and an "ocean" from blue foam! Glue the fin to the ocean and fasten fish. Attach the Velcro band to the bottom and fasten it on your pet like a belt.

By now, you would have got an idea of how to make a pet Halloween costume that works easily. Try on and have a great Halloween night.

How to make the Halloween night less scary for your pet?

Halloween night for your pet

Not all pets are super social, some have their own instincts. If this is the case with your pet, then you need to take preventative measures that will help your pet have a less scary experience on the day of Halloween.

·         Tuck them away from hazards while you are having fun. Ensure that your pets have a safe and secured haven in a room where they can feel safe and comfortable.

·         If you are conducting a Halloween party, then don’t forget to do the same. With Halloween costumes and masks on, your pet may not recognize even the familiar people.

·         Irrespective of the super social nature of your pet, it is good to keep them indoors, particularly while you’re out trick-or-treating.

·         Do not force your pet to wear a costume, it makes them feel dread, you can go for a fancy collar or bandana instead.

·         Even though they’re generally safe, by no means let your pet bite on real pumpkins, for the reason that they may cause stomach upset.

·         If at all, your pet does consume the contents of a trick-or-treat bag, with no further ado, call your veterinarian or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center

How to Prepare Your Pets For a Natural Disaster

Hurricanes bring on severe and massive weather changes. The heavy floods and rainfall cause a lot of destruction and this means evacuation plans and preparedness. Most of the time we do not bother about preparing our pets for this disaster. The American Veterinary Medical Association, also known as the AVMA suggest and recommend a few simple plans to make sure your pets are also prepared at the same time.

Pet Carrier and Temporary Housing: It is recommended to have a pet carrier large and comfortable enough to house your pet for a couple of days. During such situations one can never tell how long the disaster will last. It is always better to be prepared. Extra cardboard boxes, plastic bags as liners are a definite must.

Disaster Preparedness Kit: A week’s worth of food and water should definitely be included. Medication and other first aid supplies should also be included. For identification purpose a picture of you and your pet or your family along with your pet. List of Pet friendly hotels, list of friends and relatives with whom you can stay with along with your pet and contact details of a local veterinarian as well.

Identification Tags: The probability of losing your pet during a disaster situation is highly likely. At such times it is important that your pets are properly identifiable. Installing a microchip does wonders. Other options include identification tags with all the contact details of the owners and relatives.

Pets are always considered to be more than family. For many who are lonely, pets provide the love and warmth that you can probably cannot expect from a human being. Taking care of them is our duty and it will not hurt to follow these simple rules.

Eugene Bostick

Homeless pets - adventure ride- custom built puppy train- kind-hearted Eugene Bostick is the man behind this - Not just pet adoption… Read on…

Train for dogs? Isn’t it awesome? Bostick's inventive contraption is blowing up around the world as he has come up with this new train.

Eugene Bostick is a retired farmer and he lives down on a dead-end street his brother. Owning a horse barn, he sees people come by to dump dogs out there. Having started to feed them, taking to the vet and getting them spayed and neutered, they started letting the dogs inside their house. Having ha enough space for them to run and play, taking all of them inside the town for a walk was been a challenge for him. But still he managed to take them all in his tractor, as the count increased it was getting tight to continue this; as a result, he got creative.

Later, he had seen a guy, who was attaching carts to pull rocks, Dang!! There came the idea of a dog train. Bostick is not just a farmer; he is also a pretty good welder. Hence he started collecting supplies that would require making this train.

Finally, the train was ready and it was a hit amongst Bostick's adopted pets that reportedly run in the direction of the train when they overhear its tractor approaching and jump into their "cars" without hesitation.

The train currently runs through city twice with nine happy pups yapping and wiggling their tails. With that said, not just the pups, even the locals have been charmed seeing this.

Locals have also been charmed by the dog train, which currently runs through town once or twice a week with a cargo of nine happy pups barking and wagging their tails.

Eugene Bostick has given a thought beyond pet adoption, keeping them happy is all that matters, after all.

In Dog Care, Oral Hygiene is Important- Apple Valley Veterinarians

dog care

As far as dog care is concerned, dental health should be your priority says Apple Valley veterinarians.

Providing food, Timely vaccinations, yearly health examinations is just a part of your pet care, oral hygiene occupies a larger space in pets health says Dr. Herbert S. Freiman Apple Valley Veterinarians in Plantsville, Connecticut.  A regular dental care can not only add a bright smile to your pooch, but also extend your dog’s life. It isn’t a matter of fresh breath, but it is the base for good health overall, he adds.

Although it is good to bring pets in for annual oral health checkups, it is also helpful to do some daily dental care at home. Striving to spread the importance of oral health within the community, Plantsville, Connecticut veterinary hospital is making all efforts to do that.

Seeing that dogs and cats use their mouth as palpable organs in place of hands, it is not rare for teeth to chip or split in the normal course of their investigation. Having said that, when oral health for pets is neglected it can lead to gingivitis and periodontal disease! Resulting in painful conditions it can cause loss of teeth, bad breath and infections in the underlying bone.

If you wanted to create an effective dental care for your pet, then make sure that you start the process with a dental checkup. Importantly, make sure that you brush your dog’s teeth on a daily basis. Keep reading and in the next post, we will discuss about the dental care products.

Find Your Lost Pet With This New App

Lost Pet Find App

Apps for finding lost pet? This is exciting, but how will it know my dog exactly? Relax! Algorithms will make out one dog's face from another.

Gone are the days, where we used to see pets missing on power poles and other visible areas. With the advent in technology, now you can easily find out your lost dog or cat without much ado.

John Polimeno, the CEO of finding rover says “Anybody can become a hero and find the lost pet with the help of an app.

KCRA-TV hearsay that Finding Rover is a latest, free facial recognition app designed for pet owners.

You can leave your contact number; even post a reward to whoever will find the pet, just the same info you would post on a poster.

With 98% accurateness, algorithms are used to identify one dog from another. The designers believe they are on the right track towards identification process.

“Every shelter in the area will be checked by the app to see if your pet has been picked up,” said Polimeno. “We get a feed from all the shelters with pictures of the pets.”

The good news is that, just about 700 lost pets are found in the last 18 months, with the help of this app.

“Approximately 5000 dogs are brought to our shelter and roughly 25% are picked up their owners,” said Gina Knepp, Sacramento Front Street Animal Shelter.

With the help of this app, things are going to change, he added. And luckily, in a month or two, this app will also be available for cats.

Vigilant, observant, compassionate- Understanding the Behavioral Pattern of Pets

Behavioral Pattern of Pets

Understanding how your pets behave and what they mean can make you a much better pet owner and a loving one too. It is never easy to understand let alone interpret them. An untrained dog or a misbehaving dog not only shows that you are an irresponsible owner but is a nuisance to the people living around you. Many apartment complexes do not entertain dog owners for this sole purpose. There are lots of things to consider when it comes to understanding your pet’s behavior. The breed and character is something to consider. Most of the dogs show anger or aggression mostly out of fear. They usually live according to a give and take policy, although majority of the pet’s give more than we give.

We can easily make out if a dog if a dog is happy when you see a healthy dog coming up to you wagging its tail and jumping at your presence. A lazy or an unhealthy dog would not move from its place. An idle dog is more likely to get aggressive than an active dog. An unhealthy dog would also not eat properly, shed hair and would lose a lot of weight. At such times it is better to take your dog to the vet and get all the medication required to get your dog back its health.

There have been lots of research and studies on the behavioral pattern of pets but no conclusive evidence has been recorded. Each behavioral pattern differs because of the difference in breed, character and age.  It is very important that all pet owners take special steps to learn and understand their pets. Teach them obedience with love and care and this will guarantee you a fun loving and happy dog that will keep you happy too.

Promoting Animal Welfare Through “Adopt a Pet” Party

Adopt a Pet

Adopt a Pet” this was the theme of the party conducted by the Animal protection office of New Taipei city at the city government plaza in Banciao. Helping dogs and cats to find homes, another main notion of the party was to educate people about pet abandonment.

Eric Chu, New Taipei City Mayor, having attended the opening said, that the city government executed a no-euthanasia policy, adding that homeless dogs and cats held by the authorities and kept in animal shelters should no longer face the prospect of demise, if they were not adopted within a stipulated period.

Quite a few public and private shelters are making efforts to arrange for the adoption of stray dogs and cats, however, there is a large number of wandering dogs and cats can be seen on the streets, he added.

Even though the main concept of this party was about calling people to adopt animals, the city mayor also urged the owners to not to abandon their pets.

An animal adoption center has been set up by the animal protection office in Banciao. Not only you can meet pets for adoption, but also attend courses that will help you know how to raise pets.

Pooch Care - Meeting the Specific Needs of Your Dog

Pooch Care

Doggy care is considered very serious in so many countries. Unless or until you and your family are ready to welcome another member into your family animal services do not certify you to have or own a pet. Its almost like having a baby and bringing her home when the doc asks all sorts of questions before taking her home. It is that serious. Following some simple and easy tips when it comes to your dog will keep your dog happy and healthy.

Food:

Dogs also require a well balanced diet just like humans. Too much of anything is quite harmful and may result in serious conditions involving the heart or other major organs. Puppies have a small digestional tract but it is super sensitive. Giving them branded dog food is a must. As they get older it is easier to switch over to other food since their stomachs get stronger. Bones are a must at any age as they help in strengthening the teeth. Fresh water again a must. Feeding three times a day when they are puppies is good but as they complete their first year one meal a day is more than enough. One healthy meal with quality dog food will benefit your dog with all the required nutrients.

Exercise:

Being lazy affects dogs in ways that will in turn affect their health. For a healthy mind, body and soul it is very important for dogs to get their daily exercise. Dogs love walks, jogs, runs and any other physical activity involving the use of all their limbs. Dogs are also a great lover of games. Playing fetch or other games involves a lot of physical activity. Walking or jogging aid the dogs to maintain their health, keep their mind fresh and healthy. Lazing at home can also lead to erratic behaviour.

Health Care:

Visiting the vet for regular check ups and vaccinations is something that is very important for a dog. Dogs are sometimes not easy to understand especially if they are in pain. DOctors can easily detect these issues and give them the necessary care immediately.

Other caring tips such as grooming, dental check ups, Training, fleas and ticks all together play a vital role in bringing up a beautiful, healthy and strong dog. Following these tips can help have a healthy and happy dog.

General Pet Care Tips To Keep Your Furry Friend Gleeful

Pet-Care-Tips

Pets play an essential part in many lives. For some they are best friends and for some they are more than family. Caring for a pet is much like caring for a baby. Keeping them healthy is extremely important since it affects your own living conditions. If a few pet care tips were followed, your pets are not only healthy but happy as well. Some important pet care tips are;

Doctor Visits:
Visit the vet regularly. Keep up with all the required vaccinations. This not only ensures your pet’s health and safety but the whole family’s as well. Regular check ups will also help your vet diagnose certain situations that you probably may have difficulty figuring out. All pets have difficulty in expressing pain, your vet may immediately recognise what’s going on and take care of the issue.

Prevent Fleas:
Fleas are very common in all pets. Having fleas can lead to hair loss, skin rashes, irritation and infection. Swallowing a flea can lead to worms in the stomach. Fleas also aid in hoarding other parasites onto your pet’s body. Prevention is the most simple way to avoid fleas. Keep the surroundings clean and bathe your pet regularly.

Microchip your Pet:
Another important way to keep your pet safe and will bring him back if lost, easily. Microchips  are great and absolutely safe. This tiny piece is introduced just under the skin. Microchipping your pet can bring back your pet wherever they wander off.

Feeding Habits:
Many of us tend to over feed our pets  mainly because of all the love that we have on them. Obesity is not only a problem among us, but even in animals it poses a huge risk.
